Henry’s not a good guy.
As established by the games, books, and in between…
1. He left his children unattended and let one of them get snatched and/or murdered.
2. He became aware at some point of what William was doing and waited years to do anything at all even though children were dying because of it.
3. In the games, he disappears and twiddles his thumbs, sulking in his own self-pity and not doing a thing even though he knows William’s still out there and that the animatronics are still haunted. Before you say he couldn’t do anything, his actions in FFPS shows that he could.
4. In the books, he is aware of a looming threat and still just offs himself instead of dealing with it, leaving his sister to clean up the mess with poor instructions.
5. Regardless of which child dies, he pretty much completely loses contact with the other one.
6. Not to mention the numerous cases of missing children while he was working at the locations that he somehow knew nothing about and did nothing to stop. At best, we’ll say he was extremely negligent. At worst, completely apathetic.
7. When he finally decides to do something in FFPS, he traps an employee- who he doesn’t know the identity of- and assumes they want to die like he does, failing to build an escape for them and letting them burn to without much care.
8. He’s willing to build something as repulsive and convoluted as Lefty and an elaborate labyrinth of vent tunnels, but won’t build an escape for the employee.
9. Also, he claimed the listing wasn’t intended for them. He didn’t even care enough to check before he sentenced them to death.Or, even worse, he knows who they are and still doesn’t care.
This all portrays Henry as, yes, a grieving father… But also a self-centered man who only cares about his own desires. He only does things when he decides he wants to do them and doesn’t care who he hurts in the process, and then shields himself with how bad he feels. He’s a walking Martyr Complex with a grade A Victim Complex on the side.
The books aren’t much better. While they portray him as a loving father, they also show him as negligent, willing to abandon his children and leave dangerous animatronics prowling and in the hands of someone who doesn’t know anything about dealing with them, and totally driven by his own knee-jerk wants.
As much as FNAF wants us to believe Henry is a good, honest man… He’s a lot like William. He is the center of his own universe and he does what he wants without considering the consequences, and then hides behind his own misery to play himself as the good guy.
William’s the type of person that would hear a person screaming in agony and would relish it with glee.
Henry’s the type of person that would hear a person screaming in agony and would tune it out or pat himself on the back for making such a sacrifice.
I find this post intriguing because I had the idea that everyone thought this about Henry, but then I took a look at the general community and realize that I was wrong!
Oh wow! It’s weird for me because on the Latin American fandom it’s common knowledge that Henry wasn’t an entirely good father or person.
Like, there may be some people who think of him as a hero, but the majority of us see him as another William but with different wrapping paper. And our reasons to think that are exactly the ones on this post!
I guess it blows my mind to realize this since I’m not too close with the fandom on here lol
